NBA Cancels 43 Games and Kobe is Looking

Well, it has finally happened.  The controversy surrounding the 2011-2012 NBA season between the owners and players has finally come to a head, chipping away at the upcoming season.  Today, the NBA announced that 43 preseason games would be cancelled.

In addition, all training camps are postponed indefinitely.

So far, the NBA players have not flinched.

I am sure that they know the old management vs. players strategy.  To the players, this is just the first move of the pawn.  I'm sure the players have asked their wives and girlfriends to cut back on their extravagant purchases.  Oh, they'll still eat at Ruth's Chris and the clubs, but the day of the $200,000 parties are over until this is settled.

The last time and only time the NBA has reduced its regular season was 1998.  On October 6, 1998, the NBA  scrapped its entire preseason. That year, only 50 regular season games were played.

With a Jewish holiday and the union holding a meeting next week, it appears impossible that further discussions will occur until the first week of October.

Commissioner David Stern has no idea if and when regular games will be played.  When asked directly about whether the 2011-2012 season would be played, Stern said, "... I just don't know...."

KOBE ENTERTAINS ITALIAN DEAL

In what may be the biggest offer on the table for NBA players looking to go overseas,  Kobe Bryant has been offered $6.7 million to play a short season for Italy.  Some are calling it Baloney.  That is because he would play for Italian team Virtus Bologna.   If the NBA comes out of a strike before the end of the season, Bryant would be allowed to come back to the states early.
