CONTINENTAL DRIFT MOVES TEXAS CLOSER TO FLORIDA, GEORGIA, AND TENNESSEE

Continental Drift
It's about the money - baby!

Scientists believe that millions of years ago a process called "Continental Drift" occurred forming the different continents around the world.  According to the theory, one large land mass was split into many pieces to form the continents as we now know it.  This did not happen in a day or two.  In fact these same scientists suggest that this process may have taken at least 200 million years.

Yesterday, with one small stroke of the pen, the SEC (Southeastern Conference) has done what took 200 million years, overnight.  It has moved the Texas A&M Aggies, from its central location of the United States into the distant SEC conference which includes Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

So why would Texas A&M leave its conference and move into the SEC. It's about the money - baby.  The SEC is by far one of the most profitable conferences in the country.  In the 2010-2011 season, it distributed over $220 million among its members.  Texas A&M is by far the most profitable in its conference but its members have little to share and bring to the table.  Thus, welcome to the SEC!

Now this move for Texas A&M will not be cheap.  Because of contractual agreements among the BIG 12 (A&M's former conference) Texas must negotiate an "exit fee."  However, this is like the breakup of a corporation.  It may be expensive in the short term but in the long run it could be very profitable.  The weaker teams (less profitable) in the old BIG 12, will no longer be tapping a share of the profitable Aggies.
