Watch this video below when Samantha Stosur places an exclamation mark on the match point final round of the U.S. Open. Rarely does one manhandle Serena Williams, but as the song goes, "When You're Hot You're Hot." Australian Stosur came out with guns blazing and immediately took the lead. Even Williams said that she expected that Stosur would "level out" during the match, but that never happened. When the match ended, Williams was defeated 6-2 and 6-3, making this the first time an Australian has won the U.S. Open since 1980.
Williams acted up during the match and said things to the referee that will bring a sizable fine. But, in the end, Stosur's performance far overshadowed the drama. Stosur is a former doubles player who redefined her game to become one of the world's toughest players.
In 2007, Stosur should have taken it all, but she contracted a debilitating illness. In most people's eyes, her career was over. A second video (below the finals video) contains Stosur's discussion of her illness and comeback.
