Jacksonville Giants: All I Want For Christmas

By: Joseph Miller

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS
    MY TWO "GIANTS"
  FRONT ROW SEATS

The Jacksonville Giants will play another HOME GAME at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on December 30, 2011.  The arena will be packed with fans, the Miller on Sports GREEN GIANT, MR. BIGGS, MY9oh4.com (Ron's Rowdies), players and coaches.

BUZZER BEATER But, why would I like to see the Jacksonville Giants you ask?  Take a look at game one of this season.  This play in the last three seconds of game one is now the number one professional basketball buzzer beater in the history of Jacksonville, Florida.  http://www.milleronsports.com/2011/12/christian-laettners-2011-jacksonville.html

Since the children are out of school for the holidays, why not bring them to the Jacksonville Arena for an action-packed evening of family fun.  The Giants are now 3-1 and expect to reclaim their number one ranking.

At the start of the season, the American Basketball Association (ABA) ranked the Giants NUMBER ONE. The single loss has inspired the team to play even harder and to focus their talents on each and every game in hopes of climbing back to that Number One title.  The Giants have NEVER lost a home game.  That says a lot for the how responsive the players and coaches are to fan support.

PLAYERS AND COACHES MEET AND GREET Come out and see the players display their athleticism and, as usual, the players and coaches will be available after the game for a "meet and greet" autograph session.

With the purchase of as low as $10 per ticket, you will also have the opportunity to meet team mascot MR. BIGGS, who always has surprises for the children.  And, the Miller on Sports GREEN GIANT will greet you at the door as you enter.

BRING YOUR CAMERAS!  If you are interested in the Christian Laettner Raffle sponsored by Miller on Sports, bring an extra $1.00 to enter the raffle to win a variety of Laettner signed products (for example, an official ABA basketball, Giants t-shirts, Miller on Sports t-shirts, and more).

LOADS OF PRIZES The raffle table will be set up at the entrance door.  And finally, our sponsors will have a variety of items that MR. Biggs will give away during the game.  Hope to see you there.

AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR BECOMING A JACKSONVILLE GIANTS FAN...

1. SEE AND BELIEVE that Team Owner Ron Sholes and Mayor Alvin Brown's dream
of bringing professional basketball to Jacksonville is more than just a
dream.  It is a REALITY.

"Not so long ago we realized our dream of bringing a NFL franchise to our city, despite years of frustration.  Today, we are only one of 32 cities with an NFL franchise.  And why not an NBA team one day?  Can you imagine that?  I can.  Jacksonville's future will be restricted only by the limits we place on our dreams and our determination to achieve them."

Gators Interview Kerwin Bell for Offensive Coordinator

By: Joseph Miller

GATORS INTERVIEW JACKSONVILLE UNIVERSITY
HEAD COACH KERWIN BELL WHO
MAY BE NEXT GATOR OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Since the Florida Gators are considering Kerwin Bell for the position of offensive coordinator for the Gators, listen to this Miller on Sports interview with Jacksonville University Head Coach Kerwin Bell.

Miller on Sports wishes Head Coach Kerwin Bell the very best in this endeavor.

Jacksonville, Florida Jacksonville University Head Coach Kerwin Bell recently interviewed with the University of Florida for the Gator's offensive position.  Bell quarterbacked for the Gators from 1984 until 1987.

Kerwin Douglas Bell was born in Live Oak, Florida, on June 15, 1965.  He attended Lafayett County High School in a nearby Mayo, Florida, where he was the quarterback of the football team and earned the nickname "the throwin' Mayoan."

At the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, Bell was a quarterback for the Florida Gators under Head Coach Galen Hall from 1983-1987.  In 1984, Bell led the Gators to a 9-1-1 season, an SEC Championship, and a top national ranking.  However, due to NCAA infractions, the Gators were ineligible for Bowl consideration, and the team's SEC Championship was taken away.  In 1985, with a full scholarship, Bell led the Gators to a second consecutive 9-1-1 season.  The Gators also finished with BEST-IN-THE-CONFERENCE records of 5-0-1 and 5-1 in 1984 and 1985.

Bell was the SEC Player of the Year in 1984, an honorable mention All-American in 1985 and 1986, a first-team All-SEC selection in 1985, and the recipient of the Gators' Fergie Ferguson Award and team captain in 1987.  Bell finished his four-year college career with 549 completions on 949 passing attempts for 7,585 yards and 56 touchdowns.  In 1987, he graduated with a B.A. degree in psychology and was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Gator Great" in 1997.

As a professional quarterback, Bell played for the NFL, World League of American Football (WLAF), and the Canadian Football League (CFL) for fourteen seasons in 1980 through early 20000.  Currently, Bell is the Head Coach of the Jacksonville University Dolphins in Jacksonville, Florida.

Bell's coaching career started in 1990, when he was sidelined from his playing career while recovering from a knee injury.  That year, hewas a graduate assistant coach under Steve Spurrier in Spurrier's first season as head coach at the University of Florida.  Bell resumed his playing career in 1991 and returned to coaching after retiring as an active player.  Bell became the offensive coordinator for the Toronto Argonauts.  Then, Bell became the Head Football Coach of Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Florida.  After his Trinity Catholic Celtics won the 2006 Florida 2B state high school football championship.  Bell was hired as Head Coach of the J.U. Dolphins football program in 2007.  The following year in 2008, Bell was recognized as the Pioneer Football League Coach of the Year and a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award after his Dolphins ended the season with a 9-4 record and won the league's championship.

Miller on Sports Green Giant

By: Joseph Miller

MILLER ON SPORTS GREEN GIANT

The Miller on Sports Green Giant, the brainchild of Nick Seymour, made his first appearance at the Jacksonville Giants first home game of Season Two on December 3, 2011.  As the first radio sports talk mascot in Jacksonville history, the Green Giant has plans to attend all the home games as well as charitable functions throughout the community.

Initially, he appeared to be somewhat shy with those in attendance, but as soon as he was introduced to Mr. Biggs, the two of them became friends and now rock the crowd and entertain the fans.

EVERYONE LOVES THE GREEN GIANT!

The Jacksonville Giants ABA basketball team is now 3-1 and will play again on December 30th at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

They are an extremely talented group of players under the direction of coaching staff: Head Coach Kevin Waters, Assistant Coach David Graham, Assistant Coach Jerry Williams, and Assistant Coach Willie Ponds.  But, even if you are not a true lover of basketball, you should come to the Arena to see Mr. Biggs, Miller on Sports Green Giant, and the dance teams under the leadership of Pamela Masters.  You will leave loving them all.
