| PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE SET AT UNF |
On January 26, 2012, MilleronSports.com captured the local
flavor of the CNN 2012 GOP Presidential Debate in Jacksonville, Florida. The debate was held in the Lazzara Fine Arts
Performance Hall on the beautiful campus of the University of North
Florida. The afternoon temperature on
campus was 80 degrees with clear skies and a light easterly breeze. What wonderful Florida weather for our nation and the world to see as television cameras were set up near the University Green in front of
the Fine Arts Center as well as north between the J.B. Coxwell Amphitheater and
the Student Union building.

It was reported that over 150 news agencies from all over
the world had requested media credentials.
There were over 40 satellite communication vans parked on the campus for
various television stations around the country. Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown and President of the City Council Stephen Joost were meeting and greeting the
public before the debate. UNF President
Delaney was not seen around the campus, although dozens of his senior staff were
seen walking around to ensure that the debate and other events were on schedule
and running smoothly.

There was some disruption at one point when a loud group
chanted, but it quickly dispersed without request by authorities. Of note is not what happened prior and during
the event, but what did not happen. The
reaction to most large events, especially a political gathering of such
magnitude, is to increase police and security to levels that tend to interrupt
or at least change the overall mood of such an event. Instead, the UNF police force should be
commended. While highly visible and
obviously prepared, UNF security personnel were always smiling, mingling with the crowd, and
promoting an overall secure feeling.
Undoubtedly, UNF prepared well for the national and international attention that the school and campus garnered from all the media attention. Good show CNN, great show Jacksonville, and excellent show
UNF. Another fine initiative by former Jacksonville Mayor and current UNF President John Delaney.
