Just when you thought that the University of North Florida (UNF) could not outdo itself by hosting an event of such magnitude as CNN’s 2012 GOP Presidential Debate, the university hosted the ABA Jacksonville Giants vs. Panama City Dream game on Friday night at the UNF Arena.  With $1.00 beer to open the evening’s event, college students as well as local Duval County students in the Giants’ educational program, entitled “Books for Baskets,” flooded the arena to see the Giants face the Dream.  Special guests included patients from the Shands Cancer Center, Military Veterans, United Way Mentors (125 in attendance), and former Jaguars football player Reggie Hayward.

And, what a wonderful dream of an evening for the Giants!  The Giants defeated the Dream with a final score of 166-103.  While the players were motivated to win another home game to give them an 11-2 record, they also displayed quite a bit of showmanship.  Antonio “RED” Lawrence won the “showmanship” award with some very impressive ball handling skills.  Additionally, Currye Todd, Anthony Lumpkin, Renaldo Norman were all hitting their long shots, proving that Head Coach Kevin Waters’ hard-nosed and stringent practices last week paid off for the team.

Mr. Biggs, the Jewels and Gems Dance Teams under the direction of Pamela Masters, the UNF Dance Team, and the spectactors cheered the Giants in this “big win” home game.  MilleronSports.com captured the game as well as its onlookers in a variety of images that can be viewed at MilleronSports on Facebook.  Host Richard Miller with Miller on Sports reported the game on 1010XL Sports Radio.

Here are the final game statistics:
Leading Scorers:  Anthony Lumpkin 26; Lamar Sanders 24
Leading Rebounds:  Jermaine Bell 16; Matt Fields 12
Leading Assists:  Sherod Harris 13; Anthony Lumpkin 5
Record 11-2
Estimated Attendance:  2,700

The next game for the Giants is at the Jacksonville Veteran’s Memorial Arena on Saturday, February 4.

MOST POINTS SCORED IN A SINGLE GAME IN ABA HISTORY - In its 7th game in the ABA, the Jacksonville Giants established the historic ABA record of "Most Points Scored in a Single Game" with a total score of 206 points.
