Here is your water cooler news for January 26, 2012.
You
Should Know – The Indianapolis Colts named Chuck Pagano,
formerly the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator, as its head coach on
Wednesday. Pagano, 51, will officially
be introduced today. He’s been an
assistant with Baltimore since 2008, but last year was his first as the
defensive coordinator. The main question
continues to be: do the Colts keep Peyton Manning? Sounds like owner Jim Irsay will have a
decision around the middle of February.
Jaguars
Bite of the Day – After Senior Bowl practice Wednesday, the
Jags spoke to former Florida Gators cornerback Janoris Jenkins. He transferred to North Alabama following two
marijuana-related arrests in three months last year. It’s not if Jenkins will get drafted in the
first round, it’s more like where.
College
Football Nugget – Remember when the oak trees at Toomer’s
Corner (Auburn University) were poisoned by an Alabama fan during the 2009
season? If those trees die, Auburn will
replace them so fans can celebrate around them after Tiger victories.
Broadcasting
Note – The new Jacksonville Suns play-by-play broadcaster Steve
Kolbe arrives in town today. He spent
the last 14 years as the NHL’s Washington Capitals broadcaster. Kolbe will be on my show at 5:45 p.m.
today. Suns fans can meet him at
Friday’s Hot Stove League Social from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Baseball Grounds.
Strange
Thought of the Day – If Pau Gasol hadn’t been traded to the
Lakers from the Memphis Grizzlies nearly four years ago, would he have anywhere
close to the exposure he has currently?
Yeah, it’s not all that strange…
Tweet
of the last 24 hours – @PaulPabst (Paulie Pabst of the Dan
Patrick Show) “Celebs go to the hospital for “exhaustion”…everyone else takes a
nap.”
Stat
of the Day – The brother coaches – Bob, Mike and Mark
Stoops – will make, for the 2012 football season, almost $6 million in
salary. Bob, Oklahoma’s head coach,
agreed to a seven-year, $34.5 million contract back in September. On Tuesday, Mike, the Sooners defensive
coordinator, signed a three-year deal which will pay him $600,000 annually. Mark, Florida State’s defensive coordinator,
landed a one-year extension a week ago worth $375,000 for next year.
Link
of the Day – Gregg Doyel, of CBS Sports, calls out Dana
White and the UFC.
Video
of the Day – Did not realize that golfer Ben Crane had a gymnastics
background.
Question
of the Day – In a recent interview, former NBA player
Robert Horry said Lakers head coach Phil Jackson created the feud between
Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. What
would have happened if Jackson hadn’t done such? One NBA title? Zero?
